Bunte Blattsalate

So it’s been a long time since I’ve written. In my defence, in that time I have been to Berlin, Tetbury, Bath, Oxford, London and Melbourne. Oh, and Luxembourg, though that really doesn’t count. I have also managed to actually finish something: Isabella. Much of the last bit was done while listening to talks in a conference in Melbourne. And I mean actually listening - it seems strange to non-knitters that I really find it easier to concentrate if I can knit. Knitting seems to stop me from zoning out, while still leaving me enough attention to listen. Of course, once the knitting bit of Isabella was done, it took me almost 2 weeks to finish it. I hate finishing - next time I’ll try and modify the pattern to knit in the round…

I’ve had another finish since my last post. I realised (quite late) that this year was a milestone anniversary for my parents, and decided they deserved something better than the normal phone call and maybe card. I haven’t posted yet about my cross stitch, but it’s on my (ever growing) list of things to do. This particular pattern stitched up pretty quickly. I can’t say I was particularly impressed by the kit, but the finished piece doesn’t look too bad.

Es ist eine lange Zeit seit habe ich geschrieben. Zu meiner Verteidung, in dieser Zeit bin ich nach Berlin, Tetbury, Bath, Oxford, London und Melbourne gereist. Oh, und Luxemburg, obwohl das gelten nicht. Auch, habe ich etwas fertig gemacht: Isabella. Ich habe viel des letzen Stückes gestrickt während ich an einer Konferenz in Melbourne Vorträge zugehört haben. Wirklich zuhören. Es scheint, zu Nichtstrickern, unglaublich, daß ich es einfacher sich zu konzentrieren finde, wenn ich stricken kann. Das Stricken, ich mit meine Gedanken abschweifen zu verhinden. Natürlich, wenn das Stricken fertig gewesen, dauerte es mir fast 2 Wochen, um sie zu fertig gemacht. Ich hasse das Fertigmachen - folgendes Mal, ich das Muster versuche und ändere, um im runden zu stricken…

Ich habe auch ein zweites FO seit meinem letzen Post. Ich habe (spät) festgestellt, daß dieses Jahre ein bedeutender Hochzeitstag für meine Eltern sein. Ich habe entschieden, daß sie etwas besser als der normale Telefonanruf und die Karte verdienen. Ich habe noch nicht über meine Kreuzsticken geschrieben, aber sie ist auf meiner (stets wachsend) Todoliste. Dieses Muster war schnell zu sticken. Ich habe diese Stickpackung nicht so gut gefunden, aber das fertige Stück sieht nicht so schlecht aus.

It’s been a fun week or so, with two separate knitting meetups. First there was the inaugural Saarland kreativ gathering, where I got to meet local knitters I’d only ‘met’ online, practice my German, and see lots of yarn, books and projects. It was enough to convince me I should give socks another try, since everyone had such cool socks to show off. And then of course, we headed to Tausendschön and I got tempted by some pretty stuff.

And then on the weekend, the regular Kaiserslautern Stitch ‘N Bitch. I’ve missed a few meetups recently, so it was good to catch up with everyone. Yet again, there was a definite preference towards socks, but there was some cool crochet happening too, and also a cute baby’s hat.

Es war eine schöne Woche mit zwei Stricktreffen. Zunächst gab es das erste Treffen von Saarland kreativ, bei dem ich lokale Strickerinnen getroffen habe, Deutsch geübt habe und viele Garne, Bücher und Projekte gesehen habe. Es war Grund genug, mich selbst zu überzeugen, Socken zu stricken, weil jederman tolle Socken gezeigt hat. Danach sind wir natürlich zu Tausendschön gegangen und ich habe schöne Sachen gekauft.

Am Wochenende gab es das planmäßige Kaiserslautern Stitch ‘N Bitch. Da ich die letzen Treffen verpasst habe, war es schön, jederman weiderzusehen. Es gab vorzugsweise wieder Socken, aber auch ein paar coole Häkelarbeiten und einen süßen Babyhut.

While searching through my knitting, I found some forgotten stash. Compared to most knitters, my stash is pitiful. I’m a slow knitter and tend to buy for projects, but I did buy these yarns at some point with no purpose in mind. Any suggestions for good patterns to use them in would be welcome

Als ich meine Strickenprojeckte durchsucht habe, ich habe einige vergessenes Stash gefunden. Verglichen mit den meisten Strickern, ist mein Stash erbärmlich. Ich bin ein langsamer Stricker und gewöhnlich kaufe für einem Projekt, aber ich habe diese Garne ohne Anlass gekauft. Gute Mustervorschläge für ihnen sind willkommen.

Comments: I must be one of the few knitters I know who does not like socks. Perhaps I just need to try some new patterns or yarn, but so far I have finished 3 socks in total and I’m struggling to even start the 4th.

Inspired by my Ravelry invitation, the inauguration of Saarland kreativ and Coxendix, I’ve decided to try this blogging game again. For anyone from Australia who manages to find this and thinks they might now find out what I’m doing - sorry! We tried the diary blog idea, it didn’t work. This is a craft blog. It’s purpose is to help me organise my cross stitch, knitting and crochet projects, motivate their progress and hopefully give me somewhere to show off finished objects. 

Inspired by Tagebuch aus dem Strickexil and the fact that my German is going nowhere fast, I’m going to try (it may not last long) and go bilingual. Apologies to anyone out there who speaks German - this may be painful. I won’t be offended if anyone decides to correct my awful prose

Nach Eingebung von meiner Ravelry Einladung, der Einführung von Saarland kreativ und Coxendix, habe ich entschieden, dieses Blogspiel noch einmal zu versuchen. Zu jemand von Australien, der dieses Blog finden und dacht, dass sie jetzt finden könnten, was ich mache - es tut mir Leid! Wir haben den Tagbuch Blog Idee versucht und er hat nicht funktioniert. Dies ist ein Handarbeit Blog. Sein Ziel ist mir helfen, meinen Kreuzstich, Stricken und Häkelarbeitprojeckte zu organisieren, motiviert ihren Fortschritt und gibt mir hoffnungsvoll einen Ort, in dem ich kann fertige Werk zeigen. 

Nach Eingebung von Tagebuch aus dem Strickexil und meinem schwachen Deutschfortschritt, ich versucht (velleicht für nicht so lange…) zweisprachig schreiben. Entschuldigung zu jemand, wer Deutsch sprichst - es konnte schmerzlich sein. Ich werde nicht beleidigt, wenn jemand meine schreckliche Prosa korrigieren
